PETALING JAYA: DRB-Hicom Bhd clarified that the group is not considering the sale of its sportscar maker, Lotus, under the wholly-owned subsidiary Proton Holdings Bhd.
Referring to a report in a business daily on Tuesday, the group said the news was ?inaccurate and untrue?.
?DRB-Hicom chairman Datuk Syed Mohamad Syed Murtaza?s statement that ?we are looking at the company seriously? was referring to looking at how to improve Lotus? performance by improving its operations and growing its business,? the group said in a press statement.
?He was not referring to disposing of the group?s stake in Lotus as reported,? said corporate communications head Sulaiman Yahya.
Sulaiman further clarified that Syed Mohamad was commenting on a point raised by one of the shareholders during the Nov 26 EGM on the losses incurred by Lotus.
The daily reported that DRB-Hicom was considering its options on Lotus, including disposing of its stake in the United Kingdom-based company.

RECOVERY PATH: Marque not for sale despite losses, says DRB-Hicom BANGKOK: PROTON Holdings Bhd, the subsidiary of DRB-Hicom Bhd, said that Lotus, its loss-making United Kingdom-based subsidiary, is not for sale and that the group is in the midst of completing its turnaround plans for the British sports car maker. Proton's deputy chief executive officer Datuk Lukman Ibrahim said the group was looking at reconsolidating its presence in the UK, including trying to synergise the two brands -- Lotus and Proton -- with the hopes of making a comeback to the UK market. "Lotus is for us to keep and for us to improve. It's still there and it will be there," he said at the Thailand International Motor Show here last week.....

LOTUS OPENS FLAGSHIP SHOWROOM AND LAUNCHES EXIGE S AND ELISE S IN MALAYSIA
KUALA LUMPUR, 8 January 2013 ? LOTUS CARS MALAYSIA today announced the official opening of the first LOTUS Flagship Showroom and Centre in Malaysia, strategically located in Sungai Penchala. In conjunction of the opening, LOTUS also unveiled two of its latest stars, the Exige S and Elise S for the Malaysian market.
The opening of the showroom and launch of the Exige S and Elise S was officiated by PROTON Advisor YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was accompanied by Dato? Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil, the Executive Chairman of PROTON. LOTUS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PROTON Holdings Berhad.
Part of DRB-HICOM?s plans to revive LOTUS, the Flagship Showroom and Centre is built on 10,520m² of land, and offers a complete LOTUS experience with a Showroom, a Customer Interactive Block, and a Service Centre, where owners will be able to service, and obtain the spare parts for their Lotus cars.
The Showroom covers an area of approximately 1,060m², and consists of sale areas for new and pre-owned Lotus cars. Elegant and minimalist, the Showroom was designed to convey the heritage of the LOTUS brand. Retail areas for Lotus car accessories, Lotus Originals merchandise, a delivery room, and open deck garden and customers lounge are also located in the Showroom building.
The advanced and fully-equipped LOTUS Service Centre is approximately 1,009m² in size and will offer the highest level of customer service to current and future Lotus owners. The Service Centre is able to accommodate up to 20 cars a day and 480 cars a month.
According to Dato? Sri Haji Mohd Khamil, when DRB-HICOM first took over PROTON and all its subsidiaries, including LOTUS, one of the Group?s top priorities was to look into reviving the LOTUS brand. ?We have many times affirmed our commitment to the future of this brand, and with the launch of Malaysia?s first LOTUS Flagship Showroom today, we are again reiterating our commitment to the future of LOTUS.?
?There are currently about 140 LOTUS Cars showrooms around the world, and approximately 65 percent are 3S Showrooms, but what makes this Flagship Showroom extra special is the 372m2 Customer Interactive Block, which was designed for Lotus customers in mind,? he added. ?A ?LOTUS home? for owners, this is where owners will be able to get together and ?hang out?. hab nun alle beiträge hier durchgeackert , auch mir als lotus owner tut´s weh zu hören wie es um die marke steht (rauf, runter, schulden).
Das Problem in der heutigen Zeit ist einfach, und ich denke daran wird auch Lotus vielleicht den Bach runter gehen, Produktionszahlen, Preis/Leistung.
Wieviele Automarken gibt es noch die "eigenständig" leben ?
Negativ Beispiele die nicht überlebten: Spyker, Saab, Volvo, Rover... und noch andere marken.
Man merkt es auch an den KFZ- Service Werkstätten, die nehmen teils 2-3 Fremd-Marken mehr auf, da sie mit einer schwer überleben würden.
Ich hoffe es natürlich nicht das Lotus den bach runtergeht (ala ROVER)
Die Ersatzteilpreise würden denk ich mal dufte steigen, bzw. die lieferzeiten würden ins unermessliche wandern.
Das Problem das Lotus einfach hat (die neuen Modelle sind wesentlich teurer, und genau in dem teuren segment, muss man liebhaber finden/haben, die statt auf Lambo/Ferrari/Audi/Benz und co greifen, zu Lotus übergehen.
Ich hoffe jedenfall auf ein Happy End, oder zumindest etwas "mehr sicherheit" für die zukunft der Marke
Ja ja... Krise: eben deshalb. Verkriechen bringt nichts = ab an die Front.
Ich habe mir den GTS als Vorbild genommen und einen Motorsportblack geordert, der dann mit den Goldstreiffen und den Goldfelgen plus noch einige JPS Kleber auf Halbnostalgisch optisch getrimmt wird.
Bestellt: Weihnachten 12, Auslieferung.... ähm.... Ende März 13. So wollen es die Götter. Spottet nur... dann habe ich 2 Evora... ja ja... aber meinen NA werde ich verkaufen. (muss ja nicht übertreiben).
Das Problem ist innen: ich hacke da in Hethel auf der Flexibilität rum und ernte nur Spott, denn ich habe mich auf das Innenleben der Freddie Mercury Edition verbohrt, aber die tun blöd. Also: weitermachen und rumnörgeln.
Nun denn... innen ist es eben so ne Sache, denn eigentlich kommt nur das CocoaBrown in Frage, aber das sieht schon etwas gar cocoamässig aus. Nun denn, der Anubis bleibt am Ball.
